An official Ted Lasso merchandise shop has opened in Richmond just yards from the Prince’s Head pub on The Green which was turned into the Crown & Anchor in the award-winning series. Teddington Town can reveal.
Fans of the show, who include thousands of tourists from the US descending upon Richmond to tour the various film location spots and enjoy a pint outside the pub which now promotes itself ‘as seen on Ted Lasso.’
The shop, which opened quietly last week without fanfare, has been licensed as an ‘official’ outlet by movie giant Warner Bros and Apple TV+ and stocks branded scarves, football shirts, AFC Richmond tee-shirts, cups, glasses, scarves, sweets. all carrying the greyhound trademark, made famous by the Club and the three season series, which ended in March last year.
Since the end speculation has been rife that a fourth series maybe in the pipeline but many of the star actors, which include British stars, Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster and Juno Temple, have moved on to big new projects.
The site of the shop is in cobbled Paved Court where many of the scenes in the series were shot and almost exactly where writer Jason Sudeikis, who played football coach Ted, had his fictional home and front door.
Many other retailers were stunned by the opening the shop AFTER filming had finished such a long time ago but many viewers came late to the series and have only recently discovered it on Apple TV+ which requires a subscription.
One said: “It took us all but by surprise to be honest because the show was causing a massive frenzy when it was on air and when the filming took place in Richmond and we thought the craze may have faded by now but it’s great for business because it just creates more footfall and interest in the many cafes, restaurants and shops locally.”
The show won millions of fans during COVID because of its many uplifting and inspirational scenes based upon Ted moving from college football in America to try to restore the fortunes of a fictional club called AFC Richmond, nicknamed The Greyhounds.
