An official Ted Lasso merchandise store has opened its doors in Richmond for fans to enjoy.
Ted Lasso is an American sport comedy, which viewers can find on Apple TV, set in Richmond. It follows Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, who is an American football coach brought to the UK to coach AFC Richmond.
He is brought over by Rebecca, played by Hannah Waddingham, when she wins the team in a divorce with her husband and hopes to tank the team he loves so dearly by hiring someone incompetent.
But, to everyone’s surprise, Ted Lasso’s bright-eyed optimism is not to be underestimated.
A lot of the show was filmed around Richmond, making it a hotspot for fans of the show and the fictional football team.
The shop has opened on Paved Court right next to Richmond Green.
Fans will know that this location bears significance, being right next to the doorway into Lasso’s Richmond flat.
It is also a stone’s throw from The Prince’s Head, also known as the Ted Lasso pub or fans may know it as The Crown and Anchor.
In Ted Lasso, this is the local pub for the central characters and much of the series is filmed outside.
According to Teddington Town, the store has been licensed as an “official outlet” by Warner Bros and Apple TV, selling branded scarves, football shirts, mugs, glasses and caps.
Despite not being a real football team, fans can show their support for the TV show and enjoy the items branded with the AFC Richmond Greyhounds logo.
Even now the show has aired, manager of The Prince’s Head Reece Kent continues to meet tourists from Brazil, Jamaica, Germany and of course, America.
He believes that the customers he has who visit because of Ted Lasso are increasing, even though the series has finished.
Contrary to popular belief, it is only the outside of the pub used for filming the hit show – the inside is a set.
Reece revealed that there was only a small portion of season one filmed inside The Prince’s Head, the pub is mostly used for its exterior.
While the pub is a favourite for tourists, he also said they have around 25 regulars that Reece knows by name and that Richmond residents also frequent the pub regularly.
